Windows Phone: will it be better than Windows CE?
As someone who remembers the beginning of PDA’s and had the original Psion series III, the first Casiopaeia with Windows CE, a Psion laptop imitation, several Palms, and a Windows Mobile phone, for me, the PDA has only come of age with the iPhone.
I’ve never used a Blackberry and shan’t knock it since it has such an important take up rate, and Android seems like a fine contender, but the iPhone is just one device that works the way a PDA ought to. And does much more.
But when I started seeing adverts for Windows Phone, and as an instinctive MS-basher, I couldn’t help but imagine that Windows Phone could be nothing more than another re-hash motivated by bandwagon fever. Here’s the Microsoft hype and a Windows Info Site. See also the USA Today review of the Windows Phone who reckon they’ve only nearly got it right.
Here’s Ina Fried ,who writes on Beyond Binary, lead test at Microsoft talking about Windows Phone testing, which, sadly is mostly automated.
Of course as with all these new devices, only time and sales will tell. The huge number of new entrants to the market, particularly with iPad equivalents such as the Samsung Galaxy and the Amazon Kindle getting on the back of the hype of what was started by the Apple iPhone and iPad.
